Hell's Gate Hundred- Done!

Wow what an awesome ride.  The Hell's Gate Hundred exceeded my expectations!  100 miles with 8.500 feet of climbing!  Artist Drive was a pleasant surprise.  I didn't know that loop existed and it was very cool.  The Hell's Gate climb that went on and on to Daylight Pass-- 16 miles about 4500 feet of gain-- niiice!!

I'm very happy with my performance.  I had a couple of issues early on but then had a great ride afterwards.

I'll post more later but I just wanted to drop a quick post.

  1. You're going to miss a great ride today. Townes Pass in both directions with Emigrant Pass too ;)

  2. You kicked ass george! It was great to see you ripping down daylight pass. I suffered pretty badly yesterday, but gutted it out and finished. I underestimated that ride for sure, but I feel satisfied with my performance. Yesterday was my 1 year anniversary of riding a bike, so I don't know that I could have expected more. Looking forward to the report.

  3. Jen- thank you for visiting my blog!

The ride was a monster. Towne Pass is no joke. Lots of steep sections 10-12% endless it seemed. The winds were howling as well. Reminded me very much of Furnace Creek 2009 -- yeah they were that bad.

  4. Marcus-- Thank you for checking in.

I underestimated that ride too. Most desert climbs are gradual and then get steeper. Daylight Pass road started hard and just stayed the same for almost the entire 16 miles. I had never gone past the checkpoint at Hell's Gate and that was on the northern route double that only climbs the 7 mile climb.

Don't be too hard on yourself this ride is tough and especially for newer riders. Congrats on your one year anny!!! Keep riding and you will get stronger.

I'll post a report soon. Thanks again for reading my blog!
